Overview

Transnet invites applications for the 2025 Apprenticeship Programme aimed at unemployed youth who want a recognised trade career. The programme blends on-the-job training with classroom instruction at accredited facilities, culminating in a national trade qualification. Apprentices train under qualified artisans across Transnetโ€™s operations.

  • Apprentice: Electrician โ€“ Bloemfontein, Durban, Koedoespoort, Salt River, North End, Cambridge

Key Responsibilities (Position Outputs)

-Prepare work areas, tools, materials and consumables.

-Correctly use hand tools, power tools and measuring equipment.

-Install, assemble, fit and connect trade-specific equipment & control systems.

-Test, inspect, commission and maintain electrical/mechanical/welding systems.

-Diagnose faults and repair installations and assemblies to standard.

-Comply with Health, Safety, Quality procedures and housekeeping at all times.

Minimum Qualifications & Entry Criteria

Applicants must hold one of the following:

N2 Certificate with relevant trade theory subjects; or

N3 Certificate (e.g., Industrial Electronics, Mathematics (Pure), Engineering Science, Electro-technology, Engineering Drawing, Fitting & Machining); or

NCV Level 4 with Mathematics (Pure), English, Life Orientation and trade-related vocational subjects; or

Technical Grade 12 with Mathematics (Pure), Physical Science, Engineering Graphics and trade-specific technical subjects.

Additional requirement: Age 18โ€“35 at time of application.
