Overview

The Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO) is seeking twelve (12) motivated and physically fit individuals to fill the position of Labourer within the Distribution Department. This role is crucial in supporting the maintenance and repair of water distribution infrastructure. The successful candidates will assist in field operations to ensure prompt responses to network issues, contributing to the efficient delivery of water services.


Position Purpose

Reporting to the Foreman of Water Distribution, the Labourer will provide general manual labour support to maintain and repair WASCOโ€™s water distribution infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Maintenance

-Execute repair works on pipe bursts, valves, and water supply issues under supervision.

-Conduct excavations to expose and access mains, pipes, and valves for maintenance.

-Perform backfilling and temporary reinstatement of roads after repairs.

-Investigate leakages and recommend necessary actions.

-Maintain and clean tools and ensure safe handling.

-Clean chambers through dewatering.

-Carry out any additional duties as directed by the Foreman or Supervisor.

Safety, Health, and Environment

-Follow all health and safety protocols at work sites.

-Restore environmental conditions after work completion.

-Maintain the cleanliness of work sites and surroundings.

Reporting

-Account for materials used after each job.

-Notify the Foreman about supply closures or site concerns.

-Report safety hazards immediately.


Requirements and Skills

-No formal education required; however, relevant hands-on experience in construction, trenching, general labouring, or water utilities is essential.

-Must be physically fit and capable of performing manual labour in challenging environments.

-Experience in the water or sanitation sector will be an advantage.

-Willingness to work in outdoor settings, including at heights or in confined spaces.

-Ability to follow instructions and work well in a team.

-Availability to work during evenings, weekends, and public holidays when required.
