Overview

Pick n Pay is looking to hire more than 20 experienced Blockmen to join our Butchery teams across stores nationwide. This role requires skilled professionals who can cut, prepare, and present meat products while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, safety, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities

-Cut, debone, trim, and portion meat according to specifications

-Maintain cold chain standards and monitor refrigeration equipment

-Ensure correct product rotation and remove expired or damaged items

-Display and merchandise meat products attractively and hygienically

-Interact with customers to assist with special cuts and recommendations

-Operate butchery equipment safely and clean all tools regularly

-Adhere to food safety and hygiene protocols

-Maintain accurate pricing and labelling on all products

-Minimise wastage and report discrepancies to the supervisor

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 (Grade 12 advantageous)
  • Proven experience as a blockman or in a butchery environment
  • Strong knowledge of meat cuts, tools, and safety practices
  • Physically fit and able to work in refrigerated conditions
  • Willing and able to work retail hours, including weekends and holidays
