Overview
The City of Ekurhuleni is inviting applications for a permanent Lifeguard position within its swimming pool facilities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for protecting the safety of swimming-pool users, performing lifesaving duties and helping ensure that swimming facilities and water-treatment systems are operated and maintained safely.
The position also involves daily water testing and treatment, operating pool filtration and chlorine systems, inspecting facilities and maintaining the required inspection records.
Applicants must have Grade 12, a valid Lifeguard Award, valid First Aid Level 1 certification and at least three years of relevant experience.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
– Performing lifesaving duties at municipal swimming pools.
– Monitoring swimming areas to help protect the safety of pool users.
– Responding appropriately to emergencies at swimming facilities.
– Carrying out daily swimming-pool water testing.
– Treating pool water according to operational requirements.
– Operating swimming-pool filtration systems.
– Operating the chlorine gas plant.
– Operating pool heating systems.
– Operating timing systems where required.
– Inspecting swimming-pool facilities.
– Conducting visual assessments of facilities and equipment.
– Completing the required inspection control sheets.
– Identifying potential safety concerns during inspections.
– Supporting the safe and effective operation of municipal swimming facilities.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- A valid Lifeguard Award.
- A valid First Aid Level 1 certificate.
- At least three years of relevant experience.
Candidates may be requested to provide proof of the applicable NQF level of qualifications obtained.

This position involves more than supervising swimmers. The successful candidate will also have responsibilities relating to the operation of the swimming-pool facility.

- Operation of the chlorine gas plant.
- Operation of heating systems.
- Operation of timing systems.
- Visual inspection of facilities.
