Overview:

The City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, through its Public Safety Department, is offering a comprehensive training programme to qualifying candidates who aspire to become Metropolitan Police Officers. Successful candidates will undergo an 18-month training period and, upon completion, be considered for permanent appointment within the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD).


Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Possess a Senior Certificate (Grade 12 or NQF Level 4).
  • Be a resident within the Johannesburg Metropolitan area (original proof of residence required).
  • Have no criminal record or conviction.
  • Allow biometric and background checks.
  • Hold a valid Code B Driverโ€™s License (no learnerโ€™s licenses).
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 35 years.
  • Be physically and mentally fit (medical certificate required).
  • Successfully complete a pre-training fitness assessment.
  • Be proficient in English.
  • Be willing to wear a uniform and carry a firearm.
  • Have no civil judgments related to fraud or corruption.
  • Be willing to undergo further vetting processes.

  • Reliable, honest, and of high integrity.
  • Positive attitude, patient, and able to work under pressure.
  • Willing to work shifts and in various weather conditions.

Terms of Training:

  • 18-month structured training programme.
  • Includes theory, practical assessments, and adherence to Academy and RTMC policies.
  • A stipend will be paid during the training period.
  • Trainees will be considered for appointment as Metropolitan Police Officers upon successful completion.
