Overview

Food Lover’s Market is recruiting General Assistants across multiple store departments in Gauteng and the Western Cape.

These opportunities are suitable for energetic and customer-focused candidates who enjoy working in retail and assisting with daily store operations. Successful candidates will support customer service, merchandising, stock handling, cleanliness, and general store duties while helping maintain excellent shopping experiences for customers.

Key Responsibilities

– Assist customers with product information and general enquiries.
– Provide friendly and professional customer service.
– Process cash and card payments where required.
– Replenish shelves and ensure products are neatly displayed.
– Receive and organise stock deliveries.
– Ensure shelves, fridges, and displays remain full and tidy.
– Assist with stock takes and inventory control.
– Maintain cleanliness in work areas, kitchens, storerooms, and shop floors.
– Properly dispose of waste and maintain hygiene standards.
– Inform customers about promotions and special offers.
– Assist with food freshness and stock rotation procedures.
– Follow company safety, security, and emergency procedures.

Requirements & Skills

-Matric / Grade 12 certificate.
-Previous experience as a General Assistant, General Worker, Back of House Assistant, or similar role.
-Good communication and customer service skills.
-Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
-Strong teamwork and organisational skills.
-Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment.
-Good attention to cleanliness and store presentation.
-Clear criminal record.
-Must reside within 25km of the relevant store location.

Preferred Qualities

-Friendly and positive attitude.
-Ability to handle customer complaints professionally.
-Experience using point of sale (POS) systems will be advantageous.
-Reliable and hardworking.
-Good understanding of stock rotation and food freshness practices.
