Overview
Winburg Hospital is inviting applications for four permanent Security Officer positions.
The successful candidates will help protect hospital premises, employees, visitors, equipment, documents and other government assets. Responsibilities include access control, visitor management, building patrols, vehicle inspections, monitoring the movement of assets and responding appropriately to security and emergency incidents.
This is an external vacancy, and no previous work experience is required. Applicants must, however, meet the required education, security training and PSIRA registration requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be responsible for:
– Performing access-control duties at hospital entrances and other designated points.
– Monitoring people entering and leaving the premises.
– Determining the purpose of visitors’ visits.
– Confirming appointments with relevant employees where necessary.
– Directing visitors to the correct service points.
– Ensuring admission-control registers are properly completed.
– Issuing visitor cards or other access-control documents where required.
– Escorting visitors to relevant employees or areas when necessary.
– Preventing unauthorised persons from entering restricted areas.
– Preventing dangerous or prohibited objects from entering the premises.
– Locking and unlocking entrances as required.
– Conducting regular patrols of buildings and surrounding premises.
– Following up on security incidents and reporting them appropriately.
Building and Premises Security
Security Officers will also be expected to:
- Check that doors are properly locked or unlocked as required.
- Identify water leaks and ensure taps are properly closed.
- Identify possible fire hazards.
- Report exposed electrical contacts and other safety hazards.
- Check lighting and switch lights on or off where necessary.
- Identify suspicious objects or packages and report them.
- Follow applicable emergency procedures.
- Maintain vigilance while patrolling hospital premises.
Protection of Equipment, Documents and Government Assets
Successful candidates will assist with protecting hospital and departmental property by:
- Safeguarding equipment, documents and stores.
- Maintaining registers used to control the movement of equipment and other items.
- Monitoring goods and assets entering or leaving the premises.
- Ensuring departmental equipment and assets do not leave the premises without proper authorisation.
- Inspecting vehicles entering and leaving the premises where required.
- Gathering and reporting information relating to missing or stolen equipment and stores.
- Handling documents at access points according to their classification and applicable procedures.
- Reporting suspicious or unauthorised movement of government property.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Basic Education and Training at NQF Level 3.
- A Basic Security Officer’s Course.
- Valid PSIRA Grade D registration.
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
No previous work experience is required.
