Overview

Cape Union Mart International is looking for a creative and customer-focused Shop Assistant / Visual Merchandiser to join the Old Khaki team at Mall of Africa. This role combines sales excellence with strong visual merchandising skills to create an engaging in-store experience and drive revenue.


Key Responsibilities

– Deliver exceptional customer service using effective selling techniques

– Achieve and exceed individual sales targets

– Identify opportunities to increase sales and maximise turnover

– Build strong relationships with customers and provide product advice

– Process all transactions accurately (cash, cards, vouchers, etc.)

– Handle customer queries, complaints, and feedback professionally

– Maintain store housekeeping and merchandising standards

– Implement window displays and in-store visual campaigns

– Execute seasonal promotions and brand-aligned displays

– Ensure all signage and merchandising elements are clean, current, and well-presented

– Follow head office visual merchandising guidelines

– Assist in stock control and prevent stock losses


Requirements & Skills

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent
  • Minimum 12 months retail experience
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure
  • Creative mindset with attention to detail
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Trustworthy, reliable, and solution-driven

Advantageous:

  • 1 year experience in visual merchandising
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Knowledge of fashion trends or outdoor lifestyle retail
