Overview

A Cashier position is available in Diepsloot, Gauteng. The purpose of this role is to ensure accurate handling of all Point of Sale (POS) transactions and related documentation while delivering excellent customer service. The successful candidate will ensure that no goods pass through the POS without being correctly processed and paid for.

This role requires strong attention to detail, integrity, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment.


Key Responsibilities

Cash Handling

  • Ensure all allocated cash (including floats and petty cash) balances with no shortages or overs
  • Accurately identify and capture goods on the POS system
  • Capture correct payment types received from customers
  • Ensure sufficient change is available at all times
  • Perform pick-ups accurately within set parameters
  • Conduct accurate cash-ups at the end of each shift
  • Drop daily takings into the drop safe or vault as required
  • Process transactions related to other storesโ€™ money, deliveries and quotes correctly

Administration

  • Sign, compile and file all documentation related to cashier functions
  • Maintain accurate records of transactions and supporting documents

Customer Service

  • Provide fast, friendly and efficient service at all times
  • Direct customers to the appropriate staff member when necessary
  • Ensure compliance with the company dress code
  • Create a welcoming and professional environment for customers

Safety and Security

  • Ensure compliance with OHSA requirements within the work area
  • Report discrepancies or risks to the Store Manager
  • Maintain system password control at the till point
  • Follow all cash safe-keeping and transport procedures

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 or at least 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Ability to communicate in English and the dominant local language
  • Ability to perform basic calculations accurately
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays
  • Ability to work under pressure
