Overview

Curro Langebaan is looking for a responsible and reliable Bus Driver to join the school on a full-time basis from January 2027.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe transportation of learners and staff along designated routes and to school activities and field trips. In addition to driving responsibilities, the position includes general maintenance, gardening, facility support, security and traffic-control duties when required.

Applicants must have Grade 12, a valid EC1 or C1 driver’s licence and a valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP/PrDP).

Key Responsibilities

Learner Transportation

– Safely operate the school transportation vehicle along designated routes.

– Follow established transport schedules and routes.

– Pick up and drop off learners at designated stops.

– Transport learners and teachers to field trips and other school activities.

– Plan appropriate routes and stops for trips when required.

– Maintain appropriate order and discipline among learners while travelling.

– Ensure learners are transported safely and responsibly.

– Communicate professionally with learners, parents and school employees.

Vehicle Safety and Maintenance

  • Conduct daily safety and operational inspections of the assigned vehicle.
  • Identify and report mechanical problems requiring attention.
  • Ensure the vehicle has sufficient fuel and oil.
  • Check tyres, batteries and other basic vehicle components.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the school vehicle.
  • Participate in required safety drills.
  • Complete relevant safety and vehicle reports.
  • Attend safety, first-aid and training meetings when required.

General Worker and Maintenance Duties

  • Assist with general maintenance and facility-support duties.
  • Conduct routine checks of school facilities.
  • Attend to basic maintenance requirements where appropriate.
  • Report repairs requiring specialist attention to the Facilities Manager.
  • Monitor maintenance supplies and report items that need replenishment.
  • Safely store and maintain maintenance tools.
  • Assist with security and access-control activities.
  • Provide support with traffic management around the school.
  • Complete other general worker duties as allocated.

Garden Maintenance

  • Assist with maintaining lawns, flower beds and other garden areas.
  • Clean and maintain outdoor areas around the school.
  • Follow the daily work roster and complete assigned gardening duties.
  • Monitor gardening supplies and report requirements to the Facilities Manager.
  • Store and maintain gardening tools appropriately.

Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate vehicle mileage records.
  • Complete passenger-count records where required.
  • Complete other transport and operational reports accurately and on time.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • A valid EC1 or C1 driver’s licence for the required heavy motor vehicle category.
  • A valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP/PrDP).
  • Fluency in English.
  • Ability and willingness to perform general worker duties.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with learners, parents and staff.
  • A clear criminal record.
  • Willingness to work overtime occasionally when required.

Previous experience driving a school bus or working in a similar driving position will be advantageous.
