Overview

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is recruiting 2 Cleaners to join its healthcare facilities at Bothasig Community Day Centre and Elsies River Community Health Centre. This opportunity is ideal for candidates with healthcare cleaning experience who are committed to maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment that supports quality patient care and infection prevention.

Salary

R144,024 โ€“ R169,656 per annum, plus service benefits including:

  • 13th cheque
  • Employer contribution to the pension fund

Key Responsibilities

– Maintain a clean, hygienic, and safe healthcare environment.

– Perform daily cleaning duties including dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, polishing, and scrubbing.

– Prevent the spread of infection by following approved cleaning and hygiene procedures.

– Use cleaning materials and equipment safely and efficiently.

– Clean and store cleaning equipment after use.

– Monitor and control the use of cleaning materials and supplies.

– Assist with basic stock control of cleaning products.

– Support supervisors and colleagues in maintaining healthcare facility standards.

– Ensure compliance with health, safety, and infection control policies.

Minimum Requirements

  • Basic reading and writing skills.
  • Appropriate cleaning experience in a healthcare facility.

Skills and Competencies

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and cleaning materials.
  • Understanding of hygiene and infection prevention practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, responsible, and committed to maintaining high cleaning standards.

Inherent Requirements

  • Willingness to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Willingness to work overtime at short notice when required.
  • Physically fit to perform manual cleaning duties and operate cleaning equipment.
  • Willingness to work at other Primary Health Care facilities within the Northern/Tygerberg Sub-Structure when operationally required.
