Overview

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is recruiting 3 Cleaners to join the Environmental Hygiene Services team at Groote Schuur Hospital in Observatory, Cape Town.

This opportunity requires candidates with basic literacy and numeracy skills and appropriate experience in cleaning and waste management.

Successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout designated hospital areas. The position involves general cleaning, waste management, deep cleaning, terminal cleaning and the safe use and storage of cleaning equipment.

Key Responsibilities

– Sweep, dust, mop, scrub and polish designated areas.

– Clean and maintain hospital floors and other surfaces.

– Perform thorough cleaning of toilets and ablution facilities.

– Carry out deep-cleaning duties when required.

– Perform terminal cleaning in isolation areas, ICU and other designated hospital areas.

– Collect, handle and manage waste according to required procedures.

– Maintain general cleanliness, neatness and hygiene within assigned areas.

– Use cleaning chemicals and cleaning agents correctly and safely.

– Clean all equipment after use.

– Ensure cleaning equipment is stored safely and securely.

– Assist with basic stock control of cleaning materials and supplies.

– Support supervisors and colleagues in maintaining appropriate hygiene standards.

– Perform cleaning duties across different hospital departments when required.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Appropriate experience in cleaning and waste management.
  • Knowledge of routine cleaning procedures.
  • Ability to use and handle cleaning equipment appropriately.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding cleaning duties.
  • Ability to operate heavy-duty cleaning equipment.

The advertised salary is:
