About the Store Assistant Position

The Store Assistant will support the hospital’s warehouse and asset management operations.

This is a hands-on position involving receiving deliveries, packing stock, moving goods, dispatching items to different areas of the hospital and keeping storage facilities organised.

Candidates should also be physically capable of handling heavy objects from time to time.

Successful candidates must be willing to rotate between the Warehouse and Assets components according to the applicable rotation roster.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Receiving Stock and Assets

Store Assistants will receive stock or assets delivered by suppliers.

This requires candidates to handle incoming items carefully and ensure they are appropriately placed within the warehouse environment.

2. Packing Stock

Successful candidates will assist with:

  • Receiving stock
  • Packing delivered items
  • Organising stock
  • Maintaining orderly storage areas

3. Picking Stock From Shelves

Store Assistants will be responsible for:

  • Pulling required stock from shelves
  • Placing stock onto pallets
  • Preparing items for movement or dispatch

4. Dispatching Stock

Stock and assets must be dispatched to different points within Tambo Memorial Hospital.

Employees will therefore assist in moving items from the warehouse to the areas where they are required.

5. Warehouse Housekeeping

Store Assistants must keep:

  • Shelves clean
  • Storage areas clean
  • Shelves organised
  • Warehouse areas neat

Good housekeeping is important for both efficiency and workplace safety.

6. Reporting Damaged Stock

Employees must identify and report:

  • Damaged stock
  • Neglected stock
  • Damaged assets
  • Neglected assets

Problems should be reported through the appropriate channels.

7. Occupational Health and Safety

Store Assistants must observe and comply with requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act while working within the warehouse.

Employees should perform their duties in a way that protects themselves, colleagues and hospital property.

8. Warehouse and Assets Rotation

Successful applicants must be willing to rotate between:

9. Overtime
