Overview

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is inviting applications for 6 Porter positions at Tygerberg Hospital. This role is suited to physically fit individuals with experience in a healthcare environment who are committed to providing efficient patient support services and assisting with the safe transportation of patients, specimens, and equipment within the hospital.

Salary

R144,024 โ€“ R169,656 per annum, plus service benefits including:

  • 13th cheque
  • Employer contribution to the pension fund
  • Housing allowance
  • Medical aid allowance

Key Responsibilities

– Transport patients safely between wards, theatres, departments, and other hospital areas.

– Assist with moving patients to and from beds, wheelchairs, trolleys, ambulances, and other vehicles.

– Transport blood specimens between wards and laboratories.

– Transport deceased patients respectfully in accordance with hospital procedures.

– Collect, clean, and maintain wheelchairs, trolleys, and blood hampers.

– Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times.

– Adhere to all hospital safety standards and operational procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Appropriate experience in a healthcare environment.

Skills and Competencies

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and infection control protocols.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Reliable, responsible, and committed to quality patient care.
  • Physically fit and capable of handling demanding manual tasks.

Inherent Requirements

  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and irregular hours.
  • Ability to report for duty at 06:30 when required.
  • Must be physically able to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Willingness to transport deceased patients (corpses) as part of the role.
