Overview

The Directorate: Animal Health is recruiting a General Worker for its Skukuza facility in Mpumalanga. This government position supports quarantine operations, animal care, biosecurity and wildlife health management within a controlled environment.

The role is suitable for candidates with basic education who are comfortable working with wild and large animals and in outdoor environments.


Minimum Requirements

  • ABET / Basic Education
  • Previous experience working with wild or large animals (recommended)
  • Willingness to work extended hours

Key Responsibilities

Animal Care & Biosecurity

  • Care for animals and birds in quarantine
  • Supply correct food to quarantined animals
  • Report illness immediately
  • Record daily health parameters
  • Perform basic animal husbandry duties
  • Maintain biosecurity standards

Facility & Grounds Maintenance

-Clean workstations and dispose of infectious material

-Clean predator cages, stables and bomas

-Remove bedding and wash animal holding areas

-Maintain quarantine grounds and perimeter fencing

-Mow lawns and remove vegetation from fences

-Inspect electric fencing daily

Waste Management & Operations

  • Operate incinerator and record waste disposal
  • Remove waste and foreign objects from premises
  • Assist with clinical work and necropsies
  • Assist with carcass incineration
  • Assist with game capture operations
  • Carry equipment and tools as required
