The Directorate: Animal Health is recruiting 3 Tradesman Aids in Phalaborwa, Limpopo. This entry-level government role supports disease control operations, fence maintenance and patrol activities along designated animal health control areas.

Minimum Requirements

  • ABET / Basic Education
  • No experience required

  • Repair and maintenance of roads and fences
  • Firefighting and fire prevention
  • Signs and symptoms of animal diseases

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends

Key Responsibilities

Fence & Infrastructure Maintenance

-Repair breakages and replace stolen fence sections

-Remove trees, weeds and tall grass along fences and patrol roads

-Apply herbicides where required

-Maintain patrol roads and drainage trenches

-Safeguard fencing materials and equipment

-Maintain fencing equipment

Animal Health & Disease Control

-Conduct daily patrol and inspection of disease control fences

-Prevent and deter transboundary movement of animal diseases

-Identify and report signs of animal disease

-Quarantine illegal animals

-Care for quarantined livestock

-Safely dispose of carcasses found along fences

-Report illegal movement of animals immediately

Fire Prevention & Security

  • Perform firefighting and fire prevention duties
  • Patrol gates along disease control fences
  • Report illegal non-animal related activities to security cluster
  • Liaise with local communities, farmers and security cluster

General Duties

  • Clean storeroom and office areas
  • Wash departmental vehicle
  • Maintain and safeguard departmental assets and consumables
  • Provide routine feedback to supervisor
