Overview
The Directorate: Genetic Resources is recruiting 3 Farm Aids for its Roodeplaat Variety Control facility in Pretoria. This entry-level government opportunity is suitable for candidates with basic education seeking employment in agriculture, crop production and farm operations.
The role involves supporting crop production, irrigation, infrastructure maintenance and general farm duties within a research and agricultural environment.
Minimum Requirements
- NQF Level 1 or 2 (ABET Level 2/3 certificate or equivalent)
- No experience required
Key Responsibilities
Crop Production Support
-Irrigation of crops
-Soil cultivation and preparation (cleaning, hoeing, etc.)
-Application of chemical crop protection using equipment such as knapsack sprayers
-Reaping, grading, weighing, packing and storage of produce
-Tending crops, orchards and vineyards (pruning, weeding, etc.)
General Farm Duties
- Cleaning of facilities
- Disposal of farm waste
- Maintenance of equipment (cleaning, oiling, sharpening)
- Fire prevention and firefighting activities
- Loading and off-loading of farm supplies
Infrastructure Maintenance
- Maintenance of fences, shade houses and greenhouses
- Maintenance of irrigation and water supply systems
