The Limpopo Department of Health is inviting applications for 1,985 Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) General Worker positions across hospitals, community health centres (CHCs), clinics and Head Office throughout Limpopo Province.

This is an excellent opportunity for unemployed South Africans who have a minimum ABET qualification and are looking to gain work experience in the public healthcare sector. Successful applicants will be appointed on an EPWP contract running until 31 March 2027.

  • Head Office (Polokwane)
  • Waterberg District
  • Capricorn District
  • Vhembe District
  • Mopani District
  • Sekhukhune District

Posts are available at numerous hospitals, community health centres (CHCs) and clinics throughout Limpopo Province.


Overview

The General Worker will provide essential cleaning, hygiene and general support services within healthcare facilities. Successful candidates will help ensure that hospitals and clinics remain clean, safe and hygienic for patients, visitors and healthcare professionals while supporting infection prevention and waste management practices.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

-A minimum of ABET qualification.

-Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and supplies.

-Ability to operate heavy-duty cleaning equipment.

-Ability to operate machinery such as lawnmowers and weed eaters.

-Willingness to handle human fluids and medical waste where required.

-Knowledge of Batho Pele Principles.

-Good communication and customer care skills.

-Basic knowledge of waste management.


Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Cleaning inside and outside hospital and clinic facilities.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Performing sluicing duties and adhering to infection prevention and control practices.
  • Operating cleaning equipment and machinery safely.
  • Assisting with waste management and disposal.
  • Maintaining hospital grounds where required.
  • Performing general support duties allocated by supervisors.
  • Carrying out any other duties required to support the operational needs of the healthcare facility.

Working Hours

Successful candidates will be expected to work:

  • 8 hours per day.
