Overview
Midvaal Local Municipality is recruiting a Semi-Skilled Auto Electrician to support fleet, plant, and equipment maintenance operations within the municipality.
This opportunity is suitable for candidates with auto-electrical experience, fault-finding skills, and knowledge of vehicle electrical systems who are interested in municipal mechanical and fleet maintenance work.
Successful candidates will assist mechanics with electrical diagnostics, repairs, installations, inspections, and maintenance of municipal fleet and equipment.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 10 qualification
- Grade 12 will be advantageous
- NQF Level 2 Basic Auto-Electrical Certificate strongly recommended
- Valid Code 10 Driverโs Licence with valid PDP
- Minimum 2 years relevant experience in:
- Mechanical environment within Local Government OR
- Similar pressurised environment
- Must be willing to work overtime and standby duties

Key Responsibilities
Auto Electrical Duties
- Assist mechanics with electrical repairs and maintenance
- Repair and test:
- Wiring harnesses
- Alternators
- Starter motors
- Batteries
- Sensors and control systems
- Install electrical accessories and components
- Use testing equipment and diagnostic meters
- Assist with cable routing and component replacement
Fleet & Equipment Support
- Conduct pre-start electrical checks on fleet and plant equipment
- Assist with breakdown repairs on-and-off-site
- Support equipment start-up and shutdown procedures
- Report electrical faults and abnormal equipment behaviour
Workshop & Safety Duties
- Maintain clean working environments
- Use hand tools, drills, grinders, and welding equipment safely
- Follow Health & Safety regulations and lock-out procedures
- Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings
