Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is recruiting Security Guards for 5 job posts across South Africa.
The successful candidates will be responsible for protecting Dis-Chem employees, customers, property and company assets by maintaining a safe and secure environment.
Security Guards will conduct patrols, manage access control, monitor suspicious activity, perform searches, maintain security records and respond appropriately to incidents and emergencies.
Applicants must have Grade 12/Matric and valid PSIRA Grade C accreditation.
The Durban vacancy specifies that candidates should also have at least three years of general exposure within a retail security environment such as shopping malls, retail stores or warehouses.
Key Responsibilities
– Protect employees, customers, company property and assets.
– Maintain a visible security presence to discourage theft and criminal activity.
– Conduct regular and random patrols of the premises.
– Identify and report suspicious behaviour or possible security threats.
– Monitor access points and control entry to the premises.
– Verify that employees, suppliers, visitors and contractors have appropriate authorisation.
– Conduct searches of employees, suppliers and merchandisers where required.
– Conduct vehicle searches according to company procedures.
– Maintain access-control registers and occurrence books.
– Record unusual incidents and daily security activities accurately.
– Report signs of unlawful entry, damage or suspicious activity.
– Assist in preventing theft, vandalism and other losses.
– Monitor opening and closing procedures at the premises.
– Ensure doors, windows and other access points are properly secured.
– Monitor CCTV cameras and alarm systems where required.
– Investigate suspicious activity detected through surveillance systems.
– Monitor premises during night shifts or after-hours operations.
- Report security incidents immediately to management.
- Prepare detailed written incident reports.
- Contact police, emergency services or other relevant authorities when necessary.
- Assist emergency-response teams when incidents occur.
- Maintain order during evacuations.
- Direct employees and customers to designated assembly points during emergencies.
- Help prevent unauthorised access during emergencies.
- Provide security and safety guidance where appropriate.
- Respond quickly and appropriately during security incidents.
- Follow Dis-Chem security policies and standard operating procedures.
- Maintain professional and courteous relationships with employees and customers.
- Assist with special security-related duties when requested.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should have:
- Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate.
- Valid PSIRA registration.
- PSIRA Grade C accreditation.
- Appropriate security-industry knowledge.
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
- Knowledge of security procedures and access control.
- Ability to respond appropriately during emergency situations.
For the Durban Security Stores vacancy, candidates should have:
- At least 3 years of general exposure within the retail industry, including environments such as shopping malls or warehouses.
At least one year of previous experience in a similar Security Guard role is advantageous.
