Overview
The City of Ekurhuleni is inviting applications for a permanent Driver Messenger: Records position within the Sport, Recreation, Arts & Culture Department.
This opportunity requires a minimum of Grade 8, the ability to read and write, a valid Code B driver’s licence with a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) and between one and two years of relevant experience.
The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for delivering and collecting records, mail and goods. The position also involves inspecting departmental vehicles, maintaining vehicle records, coordinating vehicles due for servicing or repairs, assisting with pool-car dispatches and supporting basic building operations.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
– Delivering records, mail and goods to required destinations.
– Collecting records, mail and goods as required.
– Ensuring deliveries and collections are completed efficiently within the assigned area.
– Handling departmental records and items responsibly while in transit.
– Assisting with the movement and transportation of departmental items where required.
– Supporting the department with general messenger duties.
Vehicle Administration and Inspections
The Driver Messenger will also be responsible for:
- Ensuring vehicle logbooks are completed by users.
- Performing daily vehicle inspections.
- Checking vehicles for visible damage.
- Recording and checking vehicle kilometre readings.
- Checking oil and water levels.
- Monitoring the general working condition of vehicles.
- Reporting vehicle damage when identified.
- Dispatching vehicles when they are due for servicing.
- Completing requisition orders for vehicle servicing and repairs.
- Facilitating queries relating to vehicles submitted for servicing or repairs.
- Assisting with pool-car dispatches when required.
Building Support Duties
The position also includes certain support responsibilities at the Corporate SRAC Department building, including:
- Assisting with the opening and closing of the building.
- Performing non-specialised maintenance duties where required.
- Operating the building’s security system.
- Supporting the safe and orderly operation of the departmental building.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 8.
- Ability to read and write.
- A valid Code B driver’s licence.
- A valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
- 1โ2 years of experience in a similar working environment.
Candidates may be requested to provide proof of the applicable NQF level for qualifications obtained.

Salary and Benefits
The advertised basic salary is:
R215,616 โ R295,764 per annum

Additional Employment Conditions
The successful candidate will be required to sign a performance contract in accordance with the relevant Council resolution.
