Overview
Food Loverโs Market is looking for General Assistants across 10 listed opportunities at various stores and operational sites.
These positions are suitable for candidates interested in retail, customer service, merchandising, stock handling, food departments and general store operations. General Assistants help ensure customers receive friendly service while keeping products available, shelves organised and work areas clean and safe.
Depending on the vacancy, successful candidates may work as general store assistants, trolley porters, equipment assistants or within departments such as Fruit & Veg, Fruitstop and Hot Foods.

Key Responsibilities
Depending on the department and store, General Assistants may be expected to:
– Welcome customers and provide friendly and professional assistance.
– Help customers locate products and answer product-related questions.
– Provide accurate information about products, promotions and special offers.
– Assist customers with product selection where required.
– Deliver excellent customer service and help resolve basic customer concerns.
– Process cash and card payments where assigned to till duties.
– Issue receipts and assist with refunds or exchanges according to company procedures.
– Receive deliveries and assist with organising incoming stock.
– Pack and display products neatly on shelves.
– Replenish products when shelves or displays are running low.
– Ensure products, pricing and promotional signage are correctly displayed.
– Assist with stock counts and stock-taking activities.
– Maintain clean and organised shelves, storerooms, kitchens and other designated areas.
– Dispose of waste correctly and maintain good housekeeping standards.
– Assist with trolley, equipment, food-service or departmental duties depending on the position.
– Follow workplace health, safety, security and environmental procedures.
– Carry out additional reasonable duties according to the operational requirements of the store.
Requirements and Skills
Applicants should generally meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Previous experience as a General Assistant, General Worker or General Clerk.
- Customer-facing or retail experience may be advantageous.
- Ability to provide good customer service.
- Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to follow instructions and workplace procedures.
- Good attention to detail.
- Ability to keep shelves, displays and work areas neat and organised.
- Basic understanding of stock handling and stock-taking procedures.
- Ability to work in a busy retail environment.
- Willingness to perform physical duties associated with retail operations.
- Clear criminal record.
- Candidates may be required to live within approximately 25 km of the relevant workplace, depending on the individual vacancy.

Depending on the vacancy, applicants may be required to complete a Customer Centric Potential Work Performance Assessment Battery as part of the recruitment process.
Candidates may also be asked questions relating to:
- Previous customer service experience.
- Experience with stock takes.
- Handling dissatisfied customers.
- Keeping shelves and fridges stocked and organised.
- Identifying and correcting incorrect price labels.
- Previous experience using a cash register or computer-based POS system.
