Overview
Ampath Laboratories is looking for a General Assistant (Cleaner) to join its team at Welkom Mediclinic in the Free State.
The successful candidate will help maintain a clean, hygienic, safe and welcoming working environment. The role involves routine cleaning, safe handling of cleaning materials, looking after cleaning equipment and helping ensure that supplies are available when needed.
This is a permanent opportunity suitable for someone who takes pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and can work responsibly with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
– Perform general cleaning duties throughout designated work areas.
– Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
– Use cleaning equipment and materials safely and correctly.
– Handle cleaning chemicals according to established safety procedures.
– Assist with the safe disposal of general waste.
– Follow appropriate procedures when dealing with hazardous waste where required.
– Monitor cleaning supplies and report items that need replenishment.
– Help maintain basic stock levels of cleaning materials.
– Keep vacuum cleaners, polishers and other cleaning equipment in good working condition.
– Follow cleaning schedules, instructions and workplace procedures.
– Complete assigned duties efficiently and within the required timeframes.
– Work independently or as part of a team when required.
Requirements and Skills
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Experience using basic cleaning equipment.
- Understanding of the safe handling of cleaning chemicals and materials.
- Previous experience in a healthcare, laboratory or other environment with strict hygiene standards will be an advantage.
- Knowledge of the safe disposal of general and hazardous waste will be advantageous.
- Good time-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of cleaning stock control.
- Ability to care for and maintain routine cleaning equipment.
- Reliable, responsible and committed to maintaining high hygiene standards.
Working Hours
The position requires 24 hours of work per week over five days.
