The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe operation of forklifts, including loading and offloading delivery trucks and underground material cars, moving stock, stacking heavy items and ensuring materials are stored safely in line with prescribed procedures.

About the Forklift Driver Position

The Forklift Driver will be responsible for safely operating assigned forklifts to move, load, unload, stack and store materials.

The role includes handling merchandise and materials from:

• Delivery trucks
• Underground material cars
• Warehouse storage areas
• Designated loading and offloading points

All work must be performed according to Gold Fields’ prescribed safe operating standards, standard operating procedures and equipment inspection requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Forklift driver’s licence
• Valid driver’s licence
• At least 2 years’ experience as a Forklift Operator in a mining environment

Candidates must also be medically fit for the position and working environment.

This includes undergoing a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and passing:

• Heat Tolerance Screening
• Other assessments that may be required to determine suitability for employment

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Forklift Operation

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating the forklift safely when:

• Loading trucks
• Offloading trucks
• Loading and offloading material cars
• Stacking materials
• Packing heavy items
• Moving materials within the work area

All forklift operations must comply with prescribed safe working standards.

2. Pre-Use Equipment Inspections

Before operating the forklift, the driver must:

• Complete prescribed pre-use inspections
• Follow standard pre-start checklists
• Identify equipment deficiencies
• Report defects or concerns to the supervisor

The forklift should only be operated when it is safe to do so.

3. Basic Equipment Maintenance

The Forklift Driver will also carry out basic equipment maintenance tasks such as:

• Topping up engine oil
• Topping up water
• Topping up hydraulic oil
• Checking for oil leaks
• Cleaning the equipment

These activities must be carried out according to applicable standards and procedures.

4. Pre-Task Risk Assessments

The successful candidate will be required to conduct mandatory pre-task risk assessments.

5. Safe Loading and Weight Control

• Report relevant information to the supervisor

7. Traffic and Safety Compliance

• Adhere to the mine’s Surface Traffic Management Plan
• Operate the forklift safely at all times

Additional Responsibilities

The employee may also be required to:

• Perform other activities necessary for effective completion of assigned work
• Participate in scheduled and ad hoc shaft and infrastructure examinations
