Overview
The City of Tshwane is looking for a Library Assistant to support the delivery of library and information services within Region 3.
The successful candidate will assist members of the public with accessing library resources, borrowing and returning materials, information retrieval and general library services.
The role also involves supporting reading and learning programmes, liaising with schools and completing administrative duties related to the effective operation of the library.
Applicants must have Grade 12 and at least six months of relevant experience, preferably within a library environment.
Key Responsibilities
– Provide lending services to members of the community.
– Assist users with borrowing and returning library materials.
– Help community members locate books and other information resources.
– Provide basic information and reference services.
– Assist with the circulation of library materials.
– Support the acquisition and management of library resources.
– Assist with collection development activities.
– Promote a culture of reading and lifelong learning.
– Support library programmes and community initiatives.
– Liaise with schools to support educational activities.
– Assist learners and community members with accessing information.
– Perform administrative duties related to library services.
– Maintain accurate library records.
– Support the day-to-day running of the library.
– Assist with general customer-service enquiries.
– Carry out duties using the applicable library management system.
– Support the implementation of library and information programmes.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- At least six months of relevant experience.
- Preferably experience within a library environment.
- Computer literacy.
- Ability to perform administrative duties.
- Willingness and ability to work Saturdays according to a fixed schedule.
- Willingness to be temporarily redeployed to another library within Region 3 when required.
Proficiency in SirsiDynix Symphony or another library management system will be an added advantage.

Salary and Remuneration
The advertised remuneration for this position is:
Salary Scale: R276,264 โ R383,700 per annum
Estimated Total Remuneration Package: R383,567 โ R520,312 per annum
The final remuneration will be determined according to the City of Tshwane’s applicable salary and employment conditions.
