About the Role
As a Heavy Vehicle Driver, you will be responsible for the safe operation, inspection and maintenance of heavy vehicles and horticultural equipment while ensuring that loads are transported safely and efficiently.
The successful candidate will also assist with operational activities such as tree felling, operating truck-mounted cranes and supporting other drivers when required.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
Vehicle Operations
-Operate heavy vehicles safely and responsibly.
-Inspect vehicles before use to ensure they are roadworthy.
-Ensure vehicles are not overloaded.
-Confirm that loads are correctly balanced and secured.
-Complete vehicle logbooks accurately.
-Report vehicle defects and keep vehicles clean.
Load Handling
-Ensure correct balancing and positioning of loads.
-Verify documentation against transported loads.
-Operate truck-mounted cranes and lifting equipment.
-Ensure lifting equipment complies with safety standards.
-Dispose of waste at authorised dumping sites.
Operational Support
-Assist with tree-felling activities.
-Support other drivers and provide relief driving when required.
-Assist with additional transport-related duties.
-Take responsibility for the safety and welfare of the vehicle crew.
-Ensure the safety of the vehicle and load while on the road.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate).
- A valid Code EC driver’s licence.
- A valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
- At least 2 years’ heavy vehicle driving experience.
- Ability to pass the Rand Water K53 driving assessment.
- Previous experience operating a back-actor will be an added advantage.
