The Department of Land Reform and Rural Development (DLRRD) is inviting applications for the position of Senior Imagery Assistant within the Directorate: Geo-Spatial Information and Professional Support based in Mowbray, Western Cape.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with a Grade 12 (Matric) qualification who are interested in geospatial information, map production and image processing. No previous work experience is required.

About the Role

The successful candidate will assist with the production of orthophoto prints, aerial imagery and geospatial products. The role includes operating specialised printing and scanning equipment, maintaining imaging equipment, laminating maps and photographs, managing photographic archives and supporting the department’s cartographic and reprographic services.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is detail-oriented and interested in map production, printing technology and image management.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

-Print orthophoto paper prints using appropriate printing equipment.

-Produce orthophoto prints from digitally scanned images.

-Scan aerial photographs, films and hard-copy images.

-Scan images for production and archival purposes.

-Operate and maintain large-format printers, scanners and lamination machines.

-Perform weekly equipment calibration and routine maintenance.

-Report faulty equipment.

-Laminate maps, aerial photographs and other printed products.

-Assist Artisans with general production tasks.

-Retrieve and store aerial films and photographic archives.

-Manage photographic and printing consumables.

-Deliver completed maps and aerial photographs to the Map Distribution unit.

-Trim completed maps and photographs produced on HP plotters.

-Conduct stocktaking of reprographic consumables.

-Maintain accurate consumable registers.

-Ensure departmental quality standards are consistently maintained.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate).
  • No previous work experience is required.

Knowledge and Skills

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Basic knowledge of image correction.
  • Knowledge of operating and maintaining large-format printers.
  • Knowledge of scanning and lamination equipment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to work accurately and pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
