The SPAR Group is inviting applications from experienced and professional drivers for the position of Extra Heavy Duty Driver (PFT) based in KwaZulu-Natal.
This permanent opportunity is ideal for qualified Code 14 drivers with FMCG distribution experience who are committed to safety, excellent customer service and delivering goods efficiently. About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting goods safely, accurately and on time to SPAR stores across the region. You will ensure that company vehicles and cargo are handled professionally while maintaining high standards of safety, customer service and operational excellence.
This role requires a responsible and experienced heavy-duty driver who can operate large commercial vehicles while complying with all company policies and road safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
Delivery Operations
-Safely transport goods to SPAR stores.
-Deliver orders accurately and within scheduled delivery times.
-Verify all delivery documentation before, during and after deliveries.
-Check deliveries with receiving staff and assist with offloading when required.
Vehicle Operations
-Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
-Report vehicle defects and maintenance requirements.
-Operate tail lifts, refrigerated units and tautliner curtains.
-Perform trailer coupling and uncoupling procedures.
-Refuel company vehicles after deliveries.
-Return toll cards and company equipment as required.
Stock Handling
-Monitor loading and offloading activities.
-Ensure loads are secured correctly before transportation.
-Inspect returned stock, damaged goods, recyclable materials and company assets collected from stores.
-Ensure all delivery documentation is completed accurately and signed.
Safety and Compliance
-Comply with all company safety procedures and operational standards.
-Follow defensive driving practices.
-Maintain excellent housekeeping standards.
-Achieve driver performance targets.
-Protect company vehicles, cargo and assets at all times.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
-Valid Code 14 Driver’s Licence.
-Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
-Between 3 and 5 years’ truck driving experience.
-Experience within an FMCG distribution environment.
-Experience driving Superlink and Interlink combinations.
-Ability to communicate effectively in English.
