Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) is inviting applications from unemployed South African graduates and TVET College students to join its 18-month Communication/Public Relations Internship Programme.

This internship is designed to provide participants with valuable workplace experience, professional mentorship and practical exposure within one of South Africa’s largest freight rail companies. It is aimed at unemployed young people between the ages of 18 and 35 who have completed their studies and have no prior work experience.

About the Internship

The Transnet Freight Rail Internship Programme provides graduates and TVET College students with practical workplace experience that complements their academic training. Successful candidates will receive structured on-the-job training, mentorship and exposure to real workplace projects within the Communication and Public Relations environment.

The programme aims to improve graduates’ employability by allowing them to apply their theoretical knowledge in a professional setting while developing valuable workplace skills.


Key Responsibilities

Successful interns will:

-Participate in structured workplace learning and development.

-Gain practical experience within Communication and Public Relations functions.

-Assist with departmental administrative activities.

-Support communication and stakeholder engagement initiatives.

-Conduct research and assist with communication projects.

-Prepare reports and maintain records where required.

-Work closely with mentors and supervisors.

-Participate in team projects and departmental activities.

-Build professional workplace skills and industry knowledge.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must:

-Be a South African citizen.

-Be between 18 and 35 years of age.

-Be unemployed.

-Have no prior work experience in their field of study.

-Have completed all theoretical training at a registered TVET College.

-Have no bursary obligation.

-Hold a qualification or statement of results in Communication/Public Relations.

-Be willing to participate in the full 18-month internship programme.


Required Documents

Applicants must submit:

  • Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • Certified copy of Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or equivalent.
  • Certified copy of Communication/Public Relations qualification or statement of results.
  • Certified copy of South African Identity Document.
  • Proof of residential address.
  • Stamped letter from the institution requesting in-service training (where applicable).
  • Stamped confirmation letter from the institution confirming completion of theoretical training.
