Overview
The Casual Cashier will support customer service at the point of sale while ensuring a world-class shopping experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing customer transactions accurately, handling cash securely, and maintaining high standards of customer service in line with Dis-Chem policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Cashier Operations
โข Process customer purchases accurately using the point-of-sale system
โข Handle cash, card and voucher transactions
โข Process refunds, exchanges and approved returns
โข Balance tills and manage cash flow responsibly
โข Ensure all payments are processed correctly
Customer Service
โข Deliver excellent customer service at all times
โข Establish professional relationships with customers
โข Assist customers with product and store-related enquiries
โข Inform customers about current promotions and offers
โข Report customer compliments and complaints to management
Security & Compliance
โข Follow Dis-Chem cash handling procedures
โข Ensure all outgoing items are scanned and paid for
โข Maintain confidentiality regarding daily takings
โข Report suspicious activities and potential risks
โข Adhere to company security policies and procedures
Store Standards
โข Maintain a clean and professional checkout area
โข Follow company operating procedures
โข Support store operations where required
โข Contribute to a safe working environment
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
โข Grade 12 / Matric
Experience
โข Minimum of 6 months cashier or till operating experience
Additional Requirements
โข Computer literacy (MS Office)
โข Sound numerical skills
โข Good command of the English language
โข Basic customer service skills
โข Willingness to work retail hours
