Job Opportunity
Transnet Port Terminals is inviting applications for the position of Port Worker at the Port Elizabeth Multi-Purpose Terminal.
This opportunity is suitable for individuals who are physically fit, safety-conscious, and looking to build experience within one of South Africaโs leading port operations environments.
Preference will be given to persons living with disabilities and applicants residing within the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.
Overview
The Port Worker will provide operational labour support as directed by supervisors to ensure a safe, clean, and productive working environment while supporting cargo handling activities within the terminal.
Successful candidates will assist with cargo operations, equipment cleaning, inspections, and general terminal support functions.
Key Responsibilities
โข Clean operational equipment including cranes and crane cabins
โข Inspect containers and cargo for operational compliance
โข Assist with reefer monitoring operations
โข Open and close rail wagon twist-locks
โข Load, offload and stack cargo according to operating procedures
โข Perform hooking and unhooking duties
โข Tarp and untarp cargo where required
โข Place and remove dunnage materials
โข Clean operational areas, workshops, offices, rail trucks, sheds and ablution facilities
โข Complete required documentation including accident reports
โข Identify appropriate cargo handling equipment and gear
โข Support safe and efficient terminal operations
Minimum Requirements
โข Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
โข Minimum of 1 year relevant work experience
โข Knowledge of terminal layouts
โข Knowledge of safety procedures and standards
โข Understanding of stack positions
โข Good attention to detail
โข Strong commitment to cleanliness and housekeeping
โข Ability to work safely within a port environment
