Overview

Food Lover’s Market is looking for reliable and customer-focused Cashiers to join its retail teams at various locations in the Western Cape.

Cashiers play an important role in creating a positive shopping experience by processing customer purchases accurately, handling different payment methods and providing friendly customer service.

Successful candidates must be comfortable working in a busy retail environment and across different shifts, including Sundays and public holidays.

• Tokai, Cape Town
• Kuils River, Cape Town
• Hermanus, Western Cape

Key Responsibilities

– Operate an electronic point-of-sale (POS) system, including tills with attached scales.

– Scan and process customer purchases accurately and efficiently.

– Accept cash, debit card, credit card and other approved payment methods.

– Provide customers with the correct change and receipts.

– Ensure transactions are processed accurately.

– Maintain accurate payment records and ensure the till balances during cash-up.

– Provide friendly, professional and efficient customer service.

– Maintain a positive attitude when assisting customers.

– Keep the till and checkout area clean, hygienic and organised.

– Maintain good knowledge of products and relevant product codes.

– Stay informed about current promotions, specials and advertisements.

– Respond appropriately to customer questions, complaints and concerns.

– Work efficiently during busy trading periods.

– Follow company cash-handling, security and operational procedures.

– Report till or POS-related problems to the Till Supervisor.

– Perform other reasonable duties as required by the store.

Requirements and Skills

Applicants should generally meet the following requirements:

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• Previous experience working as a Cashier.
• Experience using a cash register or computer-based POS system.
• Ability to accurately process cash and electronic payments.
• Basic numeracy and money-handling skills.
• Good attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage time effectively.
• Ability to remain efficient during busy periods.
• Ability to handle customer concerns professionally.
• Willingness to work different shifts, including Sundays and Public Holidays.
• Clear criminal record.
• Candidates may be required to reside within approximately 25 km of the relevant workplace.

Preferred Candidates

Food Lover’s Market has indicated a preference for:

• South African candidates.
• Candidates between 18 and 65 years old.

Candidates who do not meet these preferences may still be considered if they meet the essential requirements.

Applicants may be required to complete a Customer Centric Potential Work Performance Assessment Battery.

During the application process, candidates should also be prepared to answer questions relating to previous POS experience, handling different payment methods, customer complaints, working during busy periods, maintaining a clean checkout area and responding to basic till problems.
