Rustenburg Local Municipality is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for 76 Groundsman vacancies across several municipal departments. These permanent positions offer an excellent opportunity for individuals with Grade 10 and one year of relevant experience to build a career in local government while helping maintain municipal facilities, parks, sports grounds, cemeteries and public spaces.

Job Overview
Rustenburg Local Municipality is looking for hardworking, reliable and physically fit Groundsmen to assist with the maintenance and beautification of municipal infrastructure and public spaces.
Depending on the department, successful candidates will perform landscaping, grass cutting, cemetery maintenance, sports field maintenance, street cleaning, electrical support duties and general grounds maintenance.
Some positions require the safe operation of grass-cutting machinery, particularly around electrical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Depending on the allocated section, duties include:
Waste Management
- Street cleaning.
- General cleaning of municipal public spaces.
- Waste collection support.
- Keeping municipal areas clean and safe.
Cemeteries
- Upkeep and maintenance of municipal cemeteries.
- Grass cutting.
- General landscaping.
- Cleaning cemetery grounds.
Parks & Open Areas
- Grass cutting.
- Landscaping.
- Tree and shrub maintenance.
- Cleaning parks and open spaces.
- General maintenance of recreational areas.
Parks & Open Areas (Machine Operators)
- Operate grass-cutting equipment safely.
- Cut grass around municipal infrastructure.
- Follow electrical safety procedures near power lines.
- Maintain public parks to municipal standards.
Sport Facilities
- Maintain sports grounds and recreational facilities.
- Grass cutting.
- Field preparation.
- General cleaning and upkeep.
Sport Facilities (Machine Operators)
- Operate mowing equipment.
- Maintain sports fields.
- Observe all electrical safety requirements.
- Ensure grounds remain safe and presentable.
Electrical Engineering Services
- Assist electricians with maintenance and repairs.
- Dig trenches.
- Load and off-load materials.
- Maintain equipment and tools.
- Support electrical maintenance teams.
- Work overtime and shifts where required.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 10.
- At least one (1) year of relevant experience.
- Good communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions.
Additional requirements for Machine Operator positions include:
- Knowledge of safely cutting grass near electrical power lines.
- Understanding of electrical hazards.
- Knowledge of safety protocols around high and medium-voltage infrastructure.
Groundsman (Electrical Engineering Services) applicants should have:
- Basic knowledge of electrical distribution (added advantage).
