Overview

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is seeking a dedicated Household Aid to join Mossel Bay Hospital. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in hospital housekeeping and cleaning who are committed to maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment that supports quality patient care.

Salary

R144,024 โ€“ R169,656 per annum, plus service benefits including:

  • 13th cheque
  • Employer contribution to the pension fund
  • Housing allowance
  • Medical aid allowance

Key Responsibilities

– Perform general cleaning duties, including dusting, washing, scrubbing, polishing, mopping, and refuse removal.

– Maintain a clean, hygienic, and safe environment throughout the hospital.

– Follow infection prevention and occupational health and safety procedures.

– Assist the Housekeeping Supervisor with general housekeeping activities.

– Help manage and care for cleaning equipment, household equipment, linen, and hospital assets.

– Assist with serving meals to patients when required.

– Ensure cleaning materials and equipment are used correctly and stored safely.

– Support housekeeping operations in other wards when required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Appropriate experience in a household or cleaning environment within a healthcare facility.

Skills and Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of cleaning equipment and cleaning procedures.
  • Understanding of infection prevention and workplace hygiene standards.
  • Knowledge of stock, linen, asset, and equipment control.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, responsible, and committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.

Inherent Requirements

  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, overtime, and night duty.
  • Physically fit and able to perform demanding cleaning tasks.
  • Ability to operate heavy-duty cleaning and housekeeping equipment.
  • Willingness to assist in other wards when operationally required.
