Overview
Refinery, part of Pepkor Speciality, is recruiting Shop Assistant Cashiers across 34 listed vacancies at stores in several provinces across South Africa.
These opportunities are suitable for customer-focused individuals who enjoy working in retail, assisting customers, processing sales, merchandising products and helping maintain an organised and attractive store environment.
The Shop Assistant Cashier plays an important role in the customer journey. Successful candidates will assist shoppers with product selection, operate the point-of-sale system, process payments, replenish merchandise and support the daily operations of the store.
Most of the listed positions are full-time permanent opportunities, although selected locations also have part-time and fixed-term positions.

Key Responsibilities
Successful Shop Assistant Cashiers may be responsible for:
– Provide friendly, professional and efficient customer service.
– Welcome customers and assist them with their shopping needs.
– Help customers locate products and make suitable product selections.
– Inform customers about promotions, sales and special offers.
– Process customer purchases accurately at the checkout.
– Operate the cash register and point-of-sale system.
– Process cash, debit card, credit card and other approved payment methods.
– Ensure all transactions are completed accurately.
– Respond to customer questions and resolve basic customer concerns.
– Answer customer telephone enquiries when required.
– Maintain accurate customer and transaction information.
– Replenish merchandise when shelves or displays require additional stock.
– Ensure products are displayed neatly and attractively.
– Make sure prices and promotional displays are accurate.
– Assist with receiving, checking and putting away stock deliveries.
– Support stock counts and stocktake preparations.
– Keep the sales floor, checkout area and other workspaces clean and organised.
– Prepare the store for the following day’s trading.
– Safeguard company equipment and store assets.
– Assist with measures aimed at reducing stock losses and shrinkage.
– Follow company health, safety and security procedures.
– Understand and contribute towards daily, weekly and monthly sales targets.
– Support the store team in achieving sales and profitability goals.
Requirements and Skills
Applicants should have:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Previous experience in retail, sales, cashiering or customer service.
