Position Type: Fixed-Term Contract (3 Months)
Salary: R127,497.16 โ R170,600.60 per annum (pro-rata for the contract period), plus applicable allowances and benefits in accordance with SANParks Conditions of Service.
Overview
South African National Parks (SANParks) is recruiting 8 Seasonal General Workers for a three-month fixed-term contract at West Coast National Park. Successful candidates will assist with cleaning, maintenance, visitor services, housekeeping, and general park operations to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for visitors and staff.
Please note that official accommodation is not available, and successful applicants must arrange their own accommodation.
Key Responsibilities
– Perform general maintenance of park grounds, gardens, visitor facilities, and access control points.
– Clean ablution facilities, picnic sites, day visitor areas, and accommodation to prescribed standards.
– Empty and replace refuse bins and ensure proper waste disposal.
– Assist with admissions at the R27 and Langebaan entrance gates.
– Support the setup of guided walks, braai facilities, educational activities, and other park events.
– Conduct basic maintenance on irrigation and sewerage systems, braai sites, parking areas, and visitor facilities.
– Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies, toiletries, stationery, and guest amenities.
– Report maintenance issues such as leaks, damaged equipment, broken furniture, and electrical faults.
– Assist with inventory control and housekeeping duties.
– Participate in park patrols and support basic law enforcement activities.
– Assist with traffic control and vehicle parking.
– Provide visitor information and respond to basic customer enquiries.
– Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
– Perform any additional duties assigned by management.
Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric), NCV Level 4, or equivalent qualification.
- 1โ2 years of general work or related experience.
- Basic knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Knowledge of First Aid.
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Willing to work weekends, public holidays, and overtime when required.
- SARS Tax Reference Number.
- Clear criminal record.
- Good communication skills in English and at least one other official language.
- Punctual, reliable, and responsible.
