Overview
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is seeking a dedicated Food Services Aid to join the team at Wesfleur Hospital. The successful candidate will assist with food preparation, serving meals, maintaining hygiene standards, and supporting the hospital’s food service operations to ensure patients receive safe and nutritious meals.
Key Responsibilities
– Prepare, portion, and serve meals for normal and special diets.
– Assist with receiving, storing, and controlling food supplies.
– Prepare infant formula and tube feeds in the milk kitchen.
– Clean and sterilise feeding cups, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
– Wash crockery, cooking utensils, and food preparation equipment.
– Maintain high standards of hygiene and food safety.
– Follow all health and safety procedures when handling food and equipment.
– Assist with the informal training of new employees.
– Attend compulsory in-service and training programmes.
Requirements
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Appropriate experience in a hospital Food Service Unit.
- Ability to prepare food using standardised recipes.
- Knowledge of National Food Service Guidelines.
- Knowledge of cleaning procedures and basic equipment maintenance.
- Ability to communicate in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
- Ability to work well under pressure and as part of a team.
Inherent Requirements
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
- Physically fit and able to stand for extended periods.
- Able to lift heavy objects.
- Willingness to work in large freezers and cold rooms.
