Overview

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is seeking to appoint 2 General Worker: Asset Movers to join its Transport and Asset Management Department. This role is ideal for physically fit individuals with driving experience who are passionate about supporting campus operations through the safe transportation of furniture, equipment, and university assets.

Key Responsibilities

– Move furniture, equipment, and other assets on and off campus.

– Pack, arrange, and set up venues for graduations, examinations, and university events.

– Transport assets between departments and the university storeroom.

– Load and offload assets safely from vehicles.

– Conduct daily vehicle inspections and complete vehicle checklists.

– Report vehicle defects, accidents, incidents, and maintenance requirements.

– Keep departmental vehicles clean and well-maintained.

– Monitor storeroom stock and assist with stock control.

– Report hazardous conditions and damaged equipment to management.

– Assist with functions held in the university’s Main Hall.

– Perform departmental driving duties when required.

Entry Requirements

  • Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate) or equivalent.
  • Valid Code 10 driver’s licence.
  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
  • At least 2 years’ accident-free driving experience.
  • 2โ€“3 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Physically fit and able to move heavy furniture and equipment.

  • Experience in moving, transport, or storage operations.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, responsible, and safety-conscious.
  • Good attention to detail.
