Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
-A minimum ABET qualification.
–No experience required.
-Ability to communicate effectively in English.
-Basic knowledge of Health and Safety requirements.
-Physical strength to move materials and gardening equipment.
-Ability to work well in a team.
-Ability to organise and prioritise work.
Added Advantage
Experience in gardening or grounds maintenance will be beneficial.
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will assist with maintaining the grounds and gardens of South African Navy facilities.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining clean and tidy outdoor areas.
- Preparing soil for planting.
- Planting and caring for trees, flowers and shrubs.
- Maintaining lawns and landscaped areas.
- Watering gardens and monitoring plant health.
- Removing weeds and alien vegetation.
- Practising pest control.
- Removing refuse from outdoor areas.
- Maintaining sidewalks, parking areas, fences, benches and fountains.
- Preparing grounds for official functions and parades.
- Operating and maintaining gardening equipment such as:
- Lawnmowers
- Rotary mowers
- Trimmers
- Leaf blowers
- Weed eaters
- Chainsaws
- Pole pruners
- Hand tools
- Checking equipment for serviceability and reporting defects.
