Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

-Grade 10 or an equivalent qualification.

-Basic Security Course (Grade C).

-A valid, renewed PSIRA Grade C Certificate.

-At least 1 year of appropriate security experience.

-Good interpersonal and communication skills.

-No criminal record or pending criminal cases.

-Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

-Willingness to work shifts, including weekends, public holidays and night shifts.

-Ability to work with various hospital patients, including mental health patients.

The following will be an added advantage:

  • Previous Public Service experience.

Knowledge of the following is required:

-Access Control Procedures.

-Public Premises and Vehicles Act.

-Trespass Act.

-Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS).

-Minimum Physical Security Standards (MPSS).

-Occupational Health and Safety Act.

-Mental Health Act.

-Criminal Procedure Act.

-PSIRA Act.

-Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).

-Batho Pele Principles.


Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will:

  • Operate and monitor the CCTV control room.
  • Control access to the hospital premises.
  • Patrol hospital buildings, wards and high-risk areas.
  • Protect patients, staff, visitors and hospital property.
  • Assist with restraining violent patients when required.
  • Assist in locating missing patients.
  • Escort visitors, contractors and staff where necessary.
  • Apprehend trespassers and lawbreakers.
  • Prevent unauthorized or dangerous items from entering the hospital.
  • Clamp illegally parked vehicles in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections before vehicles leave the premises.
  • Complete security registers and incident reports.
  • Report security breaches, hazards and maintenance issues.
  • Assist during emergencies.
  • Ensure proper storage of confiscated firearms in accordance with legislation.
