Robben Island Museum (RIM) is inviting applications for 6 Bus Driver positions within the Visitor Operations Department. These are 6-month contract positions responsible for safely transporting visitors and residents around Robben Island.

Successful candidates must be willing to work shifts and sleep over on Robben Island when required.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should have:
–Grade 10
-Matric / Grade 12 will be an added advantage
-Minimum 3 years’ verifiable driving experience on light and heavy vehicles
-Valid, unendorsed Code 14 driver’s licence
-Valid PDP
-Good driving record
-Knowledge of road safety rules and regulations
-No drunken-driving record
Key Responsibilities
The Bus Drivers will be responsible for:
-Transporting visitors according to predetermined routes and schedules
-Transporting residents between the harbour and their residences on the island
-Driving safely and complying with National Road Traffic legislation
-Ensuring passenger safety during loading, transportation and unloading
-Conducting daily vehicle inspections
-Checking fuel, oil, water and the mechanical condition of vehicles
-Regulating bus heating and ventilation for passenger comfort
-Maintaining operational records and completing basic reports
-Signing vehicle logbooks daily
-Reporting vehicle defects and problems to the Unit Manager
-Following vehicle maintenance schedules
-Reporting delays and accidents
-Assisting elderly passengers and persons with disabilities when boarding or leaving the bus
-Checking wheelchair ramps and assisting passengers when required
-Informing passengers of possible delays
