Robben Island Museum (RIM) is inviting applications for 8 Prison Guide positions within its Public Heritage Education Department. The successful candidates will help visitors understand the multi-layered political, prison, social, natural and built-environment history of Robben Island.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
-Must be an ex-political prisoner of Robben Island with knowledge of the history of the prison
–1 year of relevant experience will be an added advantage
-Fluent in at least 2 South African official languages
-Computer literacy
-Knowledge of a foreign language is optional but will be an advantage
-Applicants must provide a verifiable prison number
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will
-Check tour schedules, tour times and visitor numbers
-Verify that the appropriate vehicle, driver and tour-guide equipment are available
-Explain the tour structure, amenities, rules and regulations to visitors
-Conduct guided tours of Robben Island Museum
-Share information about the island’s political and prison history
-Explain the history of Robben Island’s built and natural environment
-Contextualise world and South African history in relation to Robben Island Museum
-Manage stops during tours
-Research information relating to Robben Island Museum’s history and political issues
-Participate in discussions, forums, meetings and training sessions
-Develop and incorporate relevant historical information into tours
-Perform general administrative duties
