The Gauteng Department of Health is inviting applications for 13 Food Service Aid vacancies at Steve Biko Academic Hospital.

This is an excellent opportunity for applicants with Grade 10 (NQF Level 2) who are interested in working in a hospital food service environment. Previous food service experience will be an advantage, but applicants with the required qualification are encouraged to apply.

Successful candidates will assist with meal preparation, food distribution, cleaning, and maintaining high hygiene standards within the hospital’s Food Service Unit.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

-Grade 10 (NQF Level 2).

-Good communication skills.

-Ability to work well in a team.

-Knowledge of hygiene, cleaning and safety procedures.

-Ability to perform physically demanding duties.

-Willingness to work shifts, including early and late shifts, weekends and public holidays.

-Be reliable, trustworthy and hardworking.

The following will be an added advantage:

  • At least 1 year of experience in a food service environment.
  • Experience with large-scale cooking.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will:

-Assist with daily food service operations.

-Operate food service machinery and equipment.

-Prepare patient meals, including normal and special diets.

-Dish and serve patient meals according to hospital guidelines.

-Assist with preparing meals for hospital functions.

-Wash pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and utensils.

-Clean kitchens, equipment, drains, fridges, freezers and storage areas.

-Pack and unpack food supplies and provisions.

-Remove waste and sanitize dustbins.

-Maintain high hygiene and food safety standards.

-Rotate between workstations and shifts as required.

-Follow all hospital food service policies and procedures.
