Robben Island Museum (RIM) is inviting applications for 2 Switchboard Operator positions in the Visitor Operations Department. These are 6-month contract positions reporting to the Information Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants should have:
–Matric / Grade 12
-Minimum 2 years’ switchboard or telephone reception experience
-Computer literacy
-Fluency in 2 official languages
-Strong verbal and written communication skills
-Good active listening and interpersonal communication skills
-Customer service orientation
-Attention to detail
-Problem-solving ability
-Professional and polite telephone etiquette
A Higher Certificate in Tourism, Public Relations or Marketing will be an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be responsible for:
-Channelling incoming calls to the appropriate employees or departments
-Taking messages and emailing them to the relevant employees
-Providing callers with basic information about Robben Island Museum
-Reporting faulty telephone or switchboard equipment
-Providing information and updating the online staff directory
-Consolidating staff telephone usage into spreadsheets for managers
-Analysing PIN code usage and reporting discrepancies
-Creating speed dials for managers
-Receiving and distributing post
-Receiving, registering and distributing faxes
-Directing visitors to the relevant offices
-Monitoring telephone usage
